Description

Helicobacter pylori strain B400 is a Gram-negative, microaerophilic bacterium characterized by its spiral shape and single-cell arrangement. It possesses flagella, which aid in its motility, although it is noted to be immobile in its habitat. This strain has a mesophilic temperature range, with an optimal growth temperature of 37°C, making it well-suited to thrive within the human stomach. H. pylori strain B400 is primarily host-associated, inhabiting various hosts including Homo sapiens, Gallus gallus, and several mammalian and avian species. Its biotic relationship is classified as free-living, indicating it can exist independently of its hosts under certain conditions. This bacterium is notably pathogenic in humans, associated with a wide range of gastrointestinal diseases. It is implicated in chronic gastric inflammation, gastric ulcers, and a number of cancers, including gastric adenocarcinoma and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. Other health effects include functional dyspepsia, atrophic gastritis, and peptic ulcer disease. The presence of H. pylori in the gastric mucosa can lead to an asymptomatic mucosal inflammatory response or more severe conditions such as gastric cancer and GERD. Given its significant role in gastrointestinal pathology, understanding the traits of H. pylori strain B400 enhances our knowledge of its impact on human health and the ecological dynamics within the gastrointestinal environment.
