Helicobacter pylori strain B400 is a Gram-negative, microaerophilic bacterium characterized by its spiral shape and single-cell arrangement. It possesses flagella, which aid in its motility, although it is noted to be immobile in its habitat. This strain has a mesophilic temperature range, with an optimal growth temperature of 37°C, making it well-suited to thrive within the human stomach. H. pylori strain B400 is primarily host-associated, inhabiting various hosts including Homo sapiens, Gallus gallus, and several mammalian and avian species. Its biotic relationship is classified as free-living, indicating it can exist independently of its hosts under certain conditions. This bacterium is notably pathogenic in humans, associated with a wide range of gastrointestinal diseases. It is implicated in chronic gastric inflammation, gastric ulcers, and a number of cancers, including gastric adenocarcinoma and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. Other health effects include functional dyspepsia, atrophic gastritis, and peptic ulcer disease.
