This Gram-negative bacterium is characterized by its spirilla shape and microaerophilic oxygen requirement, thriving optimally at 37°C within a mesophilic temperature range. It is a chemoorganotroph, deriving energy from organic compounds, and is typically found in chains or singles. S. Typhimurium is associated with a variety of hosts, including Homo sapiens (humans), Gallus gallus (domestic chickens), and other metazoans as well as several plant species such as Solanum lycopersicum (tomatoes) and Hordeum vulgare (barley). This wide host range reflects its ecological adaptability and potential for transmission across different trophic levels. The strain is nonsporulating and possesses six replicons along with two membranes, which is characteristic of its Gram-negative classification. Although it does not exhibit mobility, it does possess flagella, facilitating its movement in viscous environments. The bacterium is known to cause various health effects in humans, including acute gastroenteritis, bacteremia, and systemic infections, underscoring its public health significance. Ecologically, S.
