Description

Neisseria meningitidis MC58 is a gram-negative, diplococcal-shaped microbe that thrives in mesophilic temperatures, categorized as a chemoheterotroph, and can be found in various body sites of humans, including the respiratory tract, bloodstream, and cerebrospinal fluid, and is also capable of inhabiting other species such as non-human primates and other mammals, and is an obligate aerobe. As a gram-negative microbe, N. meningitidis MC58 has a thin peptidoglycan layer in its cell wall, which contributes to its susceptibility to certain antibiotics. Its diplococcal shape allows it to adhere to and invade host cells, facilitating its pathogenicity.
